The Waterfront Streetcar
This blog is intended to be a beacon, remembering, and possibly restoring, the Waterfront Streetcar. Like many Seattleites, I had no idea how much work went into creating the George Benson Streetcar Line, and I use the name advisedly, as George Benson, an unassuming man, in reality played a very large role in Seattle times that are now often forgotten.
The story of those times is too vast to begin in an introductory post, but if you have a part of that story to tell, we encourage you to share it. If you have a vision of the future that includes a historical streetcar, we encourage you to share that. If you wish the George Benson Streetcar could come back, or if you just like streetcars, or if you wish we could temper the modernity of development with a living built history around us, we encourage you to read and share your thoughts.
In turn, we will try to provide something for you to read.

Thanks for starting this up. Great content so far.
Thanks for starting this blog. My first job in Seattle, in 1996, was right across the street from the streetcar stop on Main Street. I still miss taking the streetcar up to the Market for lunch or just to hang out. To think that they took this jewel away from us to build that ridiculous sculpture garden makes me so angry.
I like the sculpture garden a lot, I just think the museum should have put in some money to replace the barn.
And a big thanks to y’all for dropping by.
The thing that gets me is when the SAM puts a ceramic glazed trashcan in their display, and that’s ‘art’, but the streetcar barn didn’t qualify. How exactlly does that work?
